Thursday Night Ride (ThNR)
Who - Club members only. Waiver required.
What - This ride is fast-paced and focuses on riding in a rotating group throughout. It's not a race, but the pace remains consistently high. It's meant to be inclusive, with designated regrouping points as the pace may be challenging for some riders. At these points, all riders are gathered, and help is provided if anyone has mechanical issues. The ride averages 20-24 mph, starting around 20-21 mph, and gradually increasing as the season progresses. It's beneficial for improving group riding skills and overall speed. The ride typically starts off quite fast, promoting physical improvement by mid-April.
When - The Thursday Night Run will happen weekly from March through late September or early October. We cancel only for thunderstorms in the summer.
Where - The bike ride starts at the Park & Ride lot near NAS Pax Gate 2 on southbound Rt. 235, near Great Mills and Linda's Cafe. The route is consistent, going south on 235, crossing to Rt 5 via Park Hall Road, and continuing to Point Lookout (if there's enough daylight). Then, riders turn around, return on Rt 5, and head back to the parking lot. It's about 40-42 miles in total. The "A" group usually takes 1 hr 45+ min, and the "B" group takes 2+ hrs, after the first couple of warm-up weeks. If there's enough daylight, they'll add the Snow Hill loop, but not until mid or late April. Due to limited daylight, the group won't do the whole route in the first few weeks.
